Sixteen Tons – a song for Labor Day. I dedicate it to all the hard working folks in the USA and all their ancestors that brought to where we are now. I would love to have sung it, but I just can’t do a good Tennessee Ernie Ford version. So I just jammed with it. Had great fun. Sounds a bit more merky on the recording than in person.… Read the rest
Sugartime played by Pat Walter with her Roland FR 4X Digital Accordion recorded on Jun 3, 2020. I thought I would give it a little facelift and share it a year later. At least I know what I was doing that day last year besides sitting by myself and worrying about Covid. “Sugartime” is a popular song written by Charlie Phillips and Odis Echols, and published in 1957. The biggest hit version was by the McGuire Sisters, whose recording of it topped the Most Played chart in February 1958… Read the rest
This Ole House. Woke up this morning with this tune running thru my head! Back in 1954, I use to play it all the time and had the sheet music, loved it. I was 10 back then. Sitting in my little bedroom playing my accordion about like I do now, but I play in the living room these days. Still having as much fun as I did 66 years ago. Guess we don’t change much. Not perfect, but fun. I am trying out my new headset mic. Seems strange not trying to get in front of a mic while playing. Always an interesting problem. LOL I would rather just play, but people keep asking me to sing. “This Ole House” (sometimes written “This Old House”) is an American popular song written by Stuart Hamblen, and published in 1954. Rosemary Clooney’s version reached the top of the popular music charts in both the US and the UK in 1954. Hamblen was supposedly out on a hunting expedition when he and his fellow hunter, actor John Wayne, came across a hut in the mountains. Inside was the body of a man, and the man’s dog was still there, guarding the building. This inspired Hamblen to write “This Ole House”.… Read the rest
Back In The Saddle Again. Have to give Gene Autry a chance since we visited Roy Rogers and Dale Evens yesterday. Another great old song. I had to pay $1.99 to buy this one, too. Of the thousands of songs I have, this one was also missing. I really wanted it to be a slow Clippity Cloppity beat, but somewhere in my inner child, she would not have that. LOL It ended up as a Bibbidi Boppidi song. I hope you enjoy this great song from the past. “Back in the Saddle Again” was the signature song of American cowboy entertainer Gene Autry. It was co-written by Autry with Ray Whitley and first released in 1939. Members of the Western Writers of America chose it as fifth of the Top 100 Western songs of all time.… Read the rest
Happy Trails. I saw a photo of Gene Autry today and thought of Happy Trails. I know Roy Rogers and Dale Evens sang it, but it popped into my mind and I started humming it. LOL So many things pop up in my mind!!! I had to buy a copy. I have hundreds of pieces of music, but not one Happy Trails. It is simple, but I ended up doing a bunch of videos and gave up. Used the last one. LOL For what I am getting paid, good enough is good enough. “Happy Trails” is a song by Roy Rogers and wife Dale Evans, known as the theme song for the 1940s and 1950s radio program and the 1950s television show in which they starred. It was written by Evans and always sung by the duo over the end credits of those programs. Members of the Western Writers of America chose it as one of the Top 100 Western songs of all time.… Read the rest
Another Sunshine Song. Open Up Your Heart And Let The Sunshine In. A Facebook friend asked about the song. I looked it up and slightly remembered it. Once I started playing it, I did remember singing it back in the good old days! Thank You for the memory. I hope you enjoy singing along and feeling a bit of sunshine! This was written by Stuart Hamblen in 1953 and released it in an album in 1956, “It Is No Secret.” When he was 18 years old, Stuart took a job on KAYO-AM radio in Abilene, Texas, becoming radio’s first “singing” cowboy. He went on to write many songs including “This Ole House”.… Read the rest
Along The Navajo Trail. A fun Tuesday song. I am trying to find a way to interact with my audience more, so I have a different format. Always looking for a better solution to make better videos. So, saddle up and let’s go for a ride! Words and Music by Dick Charles, Larry Markes and Edgar De Lange. Title song from movie “Along The Navajo Trail” from 1945 staring Roy Rogers, Gabby Hayes and Dale Evens.… Read the rest
Old Shep – A song for National Pet Day. I love this song. I found it in one of my country western fake books. After playing it, I knew it would become one of my new favorites. I used many photos of my own rescue dogs in the background. In the early 2000’s our shelter was very high kill. We ended up with 14 of our own and others that made it to rescue. I loved each one and they own a big piece of my heart. I hope you enjoy it, even thought it is a bit sad. Unfortunately, we all have a beginning and ending. “Old Shep” is a song written and composed by Red Foley and Arthur Willis in 1933 about a dog Foley owned as a child.… Read the rest
